This is the perfect opportunity for someone looking to advance their career in AWS and other cloud technologies. We build intricate serverless applications using state of the art technologies, and we’re looking for someone to help our development teams get the most from cloud services. We’ll provide a wide range of formal and on the job training and mentorship, allowing you to develop your skills in areas such as team leadership, AWS, React, Node.js, machine learning and functional programming.
|Salary:||£42k and up|
|Hours:||37.5 hrs (flexi–time)|
|Location:||York city centre|
|Experience:||5 years minimum|
We’re actively creating a diverse team and we welcome applications from all people, regardless of culture, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, age, gender identity or expression (or indeed any other characteristic whether protected by law or not). We want ours to be a truly inclusive environment, where everyone can contribute their best work and develop to their full potential.
At the core of the role is a genuine desire to build and operate high quality systems. You’ll have a strong programming background, and might well have a degree or other formal training. Ideally you will also have worked in a support or operational environment at some time, dealing with real–world operational problems.
We use Typescript and the AWS Cloud Development Kit to automate all infrastructure and deployment, but we’re keen to hear from people with any language background. You don’t need to have worked with the CDK before, but you should have a good understanding of Cloudformation at the very least.
You will be working with both internal and external teams of developers and managers and you will be providing advice, code, and support to everyone on projects, often of an architectural nature. A willingness to experiment is important and a desire to remain current in areas such as identity, cloud security, performance and quality is a must.
We create intricate, beautiful customer facing applications that are used by hundreds of thousands of people every day, so your work will be used by real people in real situations immediately! And you’ll be working in small, agile, highly collaborative teams with colleagues who want to help you succeed.
The role is based in our York office, right in the heart of the beautiful city of York.
These are the sorts of things you’ll be doing. We’re all always learning, so don’t worry if some of these things are new to you; comprehensive training and support are provided to help you grow into the developer you want to become.
- Work with small to medium sized teams on projects running anywhere from three to twelve months
- Actively engage with your customers, including helping define their requirements and design their solutions
- Help our Junior Developers and Developers improve
- Contribute to architecture and design of large, asynchronous, serverless applications hosted at AWS, using Lambda, ECS and Kubernetes execution environments
- Use AWS Cloud Development Kit to build infrastructure and continuous delivery pipelines
- Use tools like GitHub, JIRA and CircleCI to support the development process
You’ll be working alongside our management team; people with decades of experience who want to share that experience with you. As your career progresses we’ll help you decide where to specialise, and support that specialisation.
We love to see our team members grow. As well as asking you to help your colleagues we’ll actively support your growth into areas such as team leadership, requirements capture, AWS Certification, ISC2 Certification, Kubernetes, functional programming, machine learning, application performance and application security. And throughout your time with us you’ll be using a huge range of tools from relational databases and queuing systems right through to real time stream processing.
And the huge variety of work we do means you’ll never get bored. In the last few years we’ve worked on everything from karaoke to ship–broking, from video–mixing to teaching doctors. Take a look at our work page to see some recent projects.
We’re proud of the careers we’ve helped progress; people go on to great things after they’ve worked for Isotoma. Recent Isotoma alumni have gone from us straight to Apple Music, BBC iPlayer, JP Morgan and Raspberry Pi.
Salary upwards from £42k depending on your experience. We offer flexible working hours to suit your life outside work (and they’re capped at 37.5 hours a week; we don’t do overtime), generous holidays, a hefty contribution to your pension and private healthcare.
Please apply by email to firstname.lastname@example.org, clearly stating the role you are applying for. Please include a CV and any examples of your work you feel may be relevant.
